Some electric billing questions?
could you help solve these problems with working (thanks)
the average household uses 7400kWh
a) Installation of solar panel systems represents one way households can reduce the demand for
electricity on state electricity resources. A 1kW system of solar panels can produce a maximum of
3.9kWh of electricity per day. How many 1kW solar panel systems would need to be purchased to
meet the average power consumption of a NSW house?
b) At $6000 fully installed for a 1kW solar panel system after rebates, how much would the average
household pay for solar panels that meet their average electricity needs?
c) Assuming electricity bought from the grid costs 18cents per kWh and prices do not rise in the
future, how long will it take for the household to start saving money?
what is the time needed for the 7400kWh household use. if it is a year, then the calculation will go like this.
a)
(7400kWh/year) / (365days/year) = 20.27 kWh/day
20.27 kWh/3.9kWh = 5.19 panels.
you will then need 6 panels. You will generate 8541kWh/year
b)
6 panels * $6000 = $36,000 to install the panels
c)
7400kWh x $ 0.18 = $1332 /yr saving
payback = 36000/1332 = 27 years.
Saving money on electricity…………………?
Power costs are making news across the country and over three years bills have increased an average of 12 per cent in most states.
St Vincent de Paul’s energy analyst Gavin Dufty releases his forecast for power prices next week.
Carbon pollution policy will increase the average bill by $200, the introduction of smart meters will add another $80 and what are know as dynamic tariffs could boost that by another $200.
“Expect to see the biggest prices increase, or the start of the price increases in Victoria and then we’d probably suggest Queensland and then followed by New South Wales,” Gavin said.
There is not much we can do about what the power companies charge so we are being encouraged to control what we use.
Anne Armansin is employed by Origin Energy to show customers how to reduce electricity consumption.
“We can all do something about it,” she said.
“I have noticed over the decade that people are willing to if they do get a high bill they’ll call and say help us.”
Some easy options involve changing behaviour, so for every degree an air-conditioner will use 10 percent more electricity and even after it has been turned off by the remote it is sucking power.
Every appliance on standby 24/7 can chew up to 15 watts of electricity. It soon adds up.
“There are about 27 appliances in the average house that use standby power and it amounts to about 800kw of wasted power a year,” Anne said.
That amounts to $160 a year. If we all turned off our appliances at the switch across the country we would save enough power to run every home in Western Australia.
There are gadgets to help, power boards that cut standby power by turning off one appliance.
Anne said our most power hungry consumers are Generation Y.
“They’re filling their rooms with big screen TVs, games and high powered computers and they have a lot of fun,” she said.
Ed Parker is one person who is being careful and has gone from power consumer to power generator.
Photvoltaic solar panels produce more power than his family can use so instead of getting $300 bills every quarter, he is getting $300 cheques.
“We’re actually returning better that 7-8 per cent on that extra investment,” he said.
The pool filter is another power-hungry device. It runs eight hours a day and in winter it does not have to.
“You can drop it down to either four or two hours depending on what your pool supplier tells you,” Anne said.
Then there is the hot water.
Choose an off peak tariff for your hot water system. Switch to solar if you can or an energy efficient heat pump.
Energy saving tips
1. Switch appliances off at the wall or get standby power saving power boards.
2. Use fans instead of air-conditioning, they use one-tenth of the power.
3. Replace old light bulbs with efficient globes.
Salam Alaikum,
thanks for sharing this info ..
and also, we must save electricity to help save our planet.. we humans are seriously wasting away our resources.
another way of saving electricity is:
once you turn off the computer ( at home or office ) to turn off the main power also.
=)
what is the best solar panels to buy?
Do they really save energy?
Cut or almost eliminate your electricity bill, if so, how much?
Do they have a reserve unit to save electricity that I don’t use, to use when the sun is not out?
Can it produce enough electricity to cool a house and keep lights and appliances running
Lastly, how much are the panels are running for.
I have a very small home and I really thing I can make it by solar enegy and wind energy.
So I looked up at this site And guess what, I found a perfect and a easy way to make your won solar panel at home.
http://www.ehow.com/how_4857970_build-own-solar-panel.html
When I made one for a test it worked. So I thought Why not use it for a full day purpose I did a few modifications and it worked. Now I don’t have to pay any electricity bills.
Yes I have reserve units like wind energy. In fact they are just like a battery fan. I have both these things at my home installed and fully functional.
http://www.ehow.com/how_4857996_build-own-windmill.html
It Can produce enough energy to run fans and yes keep the house cool.
And if you also want to make one try it out.
Good luck and save energy
Physics energy calculation question?
A panel of solar cells cost £300 and has a maximum output of 33w
On average, over 24 hours it produces 1/8 of its maximum output
How many kilowatt-hours of electricity does the panel of cells produce, on average, each 24 hours?
Help is very much appreciated.
It says the answer is 0.099
??Pav? = 33 ? 8 = 4.125 watts = 0.004125 Kw?? (very low) ?
??(4.125 ×10?³ Kw) • (24 hrs) = 0.099 KW-hr ? 0.1 KW-hr
How much for a 8kwh solar panel system?
If I wanted to add solar panels to my home to produce on average, 8 kWh of electricity daily, how much do you estimate it would cost using state of the art technology?
I live in Virginia (Washington DC Metro Area), and I have Dominion Power. I pay the following electric rates:
Jun-Sep $0.0904/kWh
Oct-May $0.0776/kWh
Annual Ave: $0.0824/kWh
Distribution charges add on approximately another $0.0228/kWh.
How long would the ROI for an 8 kWh/day solar system be?
Figure 8 hours of sun per day, so 8 kW-hr is a rate of 1 kW, which is a medium sized panel, probably not enough to operate your house totally, unless you have a very small unit. Averaged over 24 hours, that is power at a rate of only 300 watts, enough for a TV.
Average US home use is 1.2 kW, which over 24 hours is 29 kW-hr, plus you need extra for cloudy days, peak demands, and to charge batteries.
You have to decide off-grid or on-grid, and if you want to (and are allowed to) sell excess power to the power company. Off gird, the cost of batteries and charge controller are a large part of the cost. On-grid, you have to purchase equipment approved by the power company to match your power with the grid.
Panels will cost about $3 per watt, so for 1000 watts that is $3000. Double that for installation, then add in cost of charge controller, inverter, batteries, etc. The last items depend on your alternatives, see paragraph above.
.
End of carbon emmisions?
Lets finish the job we have started.. be destructive.. lets melt the polar ice caps so much that the teenage generations of today’s grandchildren live in the knowledge that their ancestors were “greedy thoughtless people that left the mess to us”.
OF COURSE NOT
We are beginning to reduce these carbon emission but not enough by a very long shot. Sunshine, rivers and even waves from the sea can produce clean energy. I believe that oil plants are the lazy way of producing the electricity for the majority of national grids world wide. Renewable energy company’s should take full advantage of the elements produced naturally without causing harm to the planet on a whole. These company’s should be untaxed and make the world a better place without being chopped down by the taxman. It would take alot of investment but overall you will be producing electricity at an “free” price not including maintenance or production.
This would create vast employment within many countries. I live in Scotland, which probably has the highest potential for renewable energy through hydroelectricity. The government are introducing a target to be met for reducing emission but in a realistic perspective how often is the targets met with government targets against reality.
The opportunity should be taken sooner rather than later and later and TOO LATE.
The main three questions I am looking for answers for are:-
1. When do you you personally believe that renewable energy will overtake conventional energy production?
2. If this statement is true – (New research indicates that the ocean could rise in the next 100 years to a meter higher than the current sea level – which is three times higher than predictions from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC)(copy and paste onto google) How much money would need to be spent to keep the waterlevels overtaking the current coastline?
3. Why are solar panel farmland/hydro-electrics stations not produced on a high end output?
All opinion are welcome…
Response:- surely energy is money too!
Can’t answer any of your questions, but your starting sentence interesting – something to remember!!!
It just sound like below story:
‘Lonesome George is a case in point when the few big-headedness ventured into Galapagos Islands for food, with snout in their trotters, now shed crocodile tears with tortoise — those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it in the future.
These parasitic brains are helping themselves again with fossil fuel, in the name of global warming. A generation from now will label these rarest black stuffs potent symbol of past industrialized civilization.’
Can you help me summarize this agriculture article please?
ScienceDaily (Aug. 26, 2010) — Imagine devices that capture electricity from the air ? much like solar cells capture sunlight ? and using them to light a house or recharge an electric car. Imagine using similar panels on the rooftops of buildings to prevent lightning before it forms. Strange as it may sound, scientists already are in the early stages of developing such devices, according to a report presented at the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS).
“Our research could pave the way for turning electricity from the atmosphere into an alternative energy source for the future,” said study leader Fernando Galembeck, Ph.D. His research may help explain a 200-year-old scientific riddle about how electricity is produced and discharged in the atmosphere. “Just as solar energy could free some households from paying electric bills, this promising new energy source could have a similar effect,” he maintained.
“If we know how electricity builds up and spreads in the atmosphere, we can also prevent death and damage caused by lightning strikes,” Galembeck said, noting that lightning causes thousands of deaths and injuries worldwide and millions of dollars in property damage.
The notion of harnessing the power of electricity formed naturally has tantalized scientists for centuries. They noticed that sparks of static electricity formed as steam escaped from boilers. Workers who touched the steam even got painful electrical shocks. Famed inventor Nikola Tesla, for example, was among those who dreamed of capturing and using electricity from the air. It’s the electricity formed, for instance, when water vapor collects on microscopic particles of dust and other material in the air. But until now, scientists lacked adequate knowledge about the processes involved in formation and release of electricity from water in the atmosphere, Galembeck said. He is with the University of Campinas in Campinas, SP, Brazil.
Scientists once believed that water droplets in the atmosphere were electrically neutral, and remained so even after coming into contact with the electrical charges on dust particles and droplets of other liquids. But new evidence suggested that water in the atmosphere really does pick up an electrical charge.
Galembeck and colleagues confirmed that idea, using laboratory experiments that simulated water’s contact with dust particles in the air. They used tiny particles of silica and aluminum phosphate, both common airborne substances, showing that silica became more negatively charged in the presence of high humidity and aluminum phosphate became more positively charged. High humidity means high levels of water vapor in the air ? the vapor that condenses and becomes visible as “fog” on windows of air-conditioned cars and buildings on steamy summer days.
“This was clear evidence that water in the atmosphere can accumulate electrical charges and transfer them to other materials it comes into contact with,” Galembeck explained. “We are calling this ‘hygroelectricity,’ meaning ‘humidity electricity’.”
In the future, he added, it may be possible to develop collectors, similar to the solar cells that collect the sunlight to produce electricity, to capture hygroelectricity and route it to homes and businesses. Just as solar cells work best in sunny areas of the world, hygroelectrical panels would work more efficiently in areas with high humidity, such as the northeastern and southeastern United States and the humid tropics.
Galembeck said that a similar approach might help prevent lightning from forming and striking. He envisioned placing hygroelectrical panels on top of buildings in regions that experience frequent thunderstorms. The panels would drain electricity out of the air, and prevent the building of electrical charge that is released in lightning. His research group already is testing metals to identify those with the greatest potential for use in capturing atmospheric electricity and preventing lightning strikes.
“These are fascinating ideas that new studies by ourselves and by other scientific teams suggest are now possible,” Galembeck said. “We certainly have a long way to go. But the benefits in the long range of harnessing hygroelectricity could be substantial.”
CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) and FAPESP (The State of São Paulo Research Foundation) funded the study.
please help me summarize this article in 6 – 10 sentences
also answer this question , How do you think the information in this article will affect agriculture or the environment? in 2 – 3 sentences
easy ten points ty , first come first serve
Whew, that’s a lot of words. But I’ll try my best. Alrighty, here goes:
Do you think that capturing electricity is impossible? What about stopping lightning before it strikes? Well, think again.
At the American Chemical Society, scientists such as Fernando Galembeck have been researching how electricity builds up and spreads in the atmosphere to continue with their goal of creating devices that can prevent lightning. Using earlier theories of scientists, Galembeck’s team discovered hygroelectricity, or humidity electricity. In this process, water in the atmosphere creates electrical charges and transfers them to objects it comes in contact with.
Galembeck added that it might be possible to create cells that could harvest hygroelectricity and use it as a power source. They would work more efficiently in humid areas, of course. Galembeck also stated that a similar approach could be taken for lightning, placing hygroelectrical panels on buildings to drain electricity out of the sky. Well, we’ll just have to see, but these bright ideas could be the entrance to an even brighter future.
How do you think the information in this article will affect agriculture or the environment?
I think it will improve the environment. Since people wouldn’t need to use electricity from power plants, less coal would be used and less CO2 would be released into the atmosphere. Then the air would be less polluted.
(I’m not quite sure what that question meant, but I hope it was close.)
A question about Solar Panels?
How much Electricity does a standard Solar panel produce
in terms of Watts and in terms of Units( i.e. electricity meter attached in our House)
If I have 20 Solar panels and an inverter , how much electricity will I Be able to harness and store (state that in terms of volts)
Can I run Arefridgerator, Iron, Heaters, Plasma T.V. and other high Electricity Consuming Devices.
Take a look on Amazon at some of the books on how to design solar energy systems. It is a bit more complicated than you might expect.
I’m not sure what you consider to be a “standard” solar panel, but the 3′ ones I have produce about 15 watts of power in full sunlight. Put simply, you need to convert the power from the solar cells (variable voltage) into a constant voltage usable for charging a batteries. Most of the low cost modules for this purpose can’t handle more than about 100 watts. Larger systems are available that handle thousands of watts but they are quite pricey.
Since you can’t take out more than you put into your battery system, you can calculate about how long you can run a high-current appliance based upon its wattage rating, that of the battery system (adjusted for loss of converting to AC), and the charging system.
How much better does a solar panel work in space compared to on the earths surface.?
If it is more ificcient to produce electricity in space from solar panels, would it be posible to have a geo stationary satalite to send the electricity down to earth in a long cable. Could this solve the worlds energy needs.
Solar panels work better in space because
1. there is no atmosphere to effect how much sunlight gets to the solar arrays
2. there are never any clouds
3. in GEO there is less blockage from the sun.
However, the solar panels would have to remain pointed at the sun by either rotating the panels or the whole satellite.
It is theoretically possible to run cables to GEO. Such cables would have to be extremely strong to stand up to tidal forces, disturbances on the atmosphere, etc. The technology for this has not been developed yet. Let’s just say that there are a lot of issues to work out. Most likely the first place a space tether will be use is the Moon where there wouldn’t be any atmospheric effects.
Also, this kind of project would be extremely expensive. It would be much much cheaper to just build more solar panels on earth.
What does electricity do to the environment?
I am doing a project on how much really electricity impacts the environment. I’m only asking questions that basically I can’t find. I figured another person with another veiw on this would point me in the direction of finding a source for my research.
What are various things that you know electricity does to the environment? How much does it affect the environment? How much does turbines and solar panels have to with the damage? Do they cause the majority of the damage?
I’m mainly looking for a source regarding how much damage(to the environment)solar panels and turbines make by producing electricity.
List your sources to the exact place you found the information.
The most significant damage to the environment in the production of electricity is the pollution from coal burning power plants. Dark plums of pollution are released into the atmosphere causing acid rain, smog, cancer and even global warming.
The next most significant damaging electrical production process is actually hydro-electric dams. Although the production of electricity from these damns are pollution free, the fact that they stop the flow of water is what causes the most damage. This creates stagnant water with rotting leaves and debree which break down and create methane gasses. Not to mention the ecological disasters that happen down stream from lack of sediment and nutriants.
Wind power/wind turbines are very clean and very effective ways of producing electricty. Yes some birds are killed by wind turbines, but the number is so very small compaired to natural deaths and deaths of birds running into glass buildings that I consider it almost insignificant.
Solar power, in my opinion is the ultimate alternative energy. Solar panels are getting more efficient and less expensive at a rate of 5% per year and are a great way to escape the grasp of your local electricity companies. The energy is clean and not pollution is produced in the conversion process (like wind). Of course the production of wind turbines and solar panels do use resources, however when compaired as a whole to other “dirty” forms of electricity, Solar and Wind are by far the cleanest.
Hope that helps ya out!
How many solar panels are in a 2KW system?
and how much electricity does each panel produce or get from the sun? in watts
Most of the panels used in a system of that size are between 100 and 200 watts and in general most of the pros, at least in my area go with the 200′s. If you are using 200 watt panels there will be 10.
Electricity question!!!!!!!!!!?
Hi im 14 years
i have been working on making windmills out of washing machines vaculm cleaners ect.
they produce a great amount of elecetricity, enough to light 7 x 75 watt bulps.
the question
A.How the hell do i know what is plus and minus,ps i dont have a volt meter.
B. yeah this is important.
I have got a small sola panel 3×4 so very small,it was originally form a garden lamp that would light in the night, from 2 recargebel aa bateries.
question,I work in sudan ther is no electricity at all, only genarators.we have only got one genarator that supports 35 kv but also for 12 people,it usualy breaks down and im left down with my windmills.
any way the question is ( I know i have mentioned this many times)
I want to make a small solar torch(I have already bought one,but could be fun making one)
I have accendetaly removed the things on the solar lamp that would stop the energy comming to the battery, you know what i mean,if the battery gets to much over power it might burn and not work.
how do i then make it.will the battey take damage doing this?
This wil make me sooooooo happy if you could anwser this.
10 p best anwser
i would use a capacitar
If I gave you all the following would you vote for me, Dartagnon Puissant, as President of the USA?
OK … here’s the deal. WE have NO good choices for President so much as I think the pay is too cheap and the President has to put up with a lot of guff (they START with dark hair and a smile and by the time they leave they have grey hair and an attitude) I will make the sacrifice for you miscreants, even though my record sucks and I’m just a tad anti-govt, but that’s a good quality in a President, isn’t it?
Here’s the deal! I will FIRE the House and Senate and put in computers. You can go online at home or the library or at Starbucks and tell your computer representative what you want and the computer will analyze it and see what is reasonable and then draft a bill and present it to the House of Computer Representatives and the Senate of Computers and it will pass … or not.
NEXT, I will ENFORCE the 16th Amendment and make the corporations be responsible for ALL The taxes as our forefathers, or whoever wrote the 16th Amendment, meant and the American citizens will NOT have to pay income tax.
NEXT, I will make GM, Chrysler, and Ford make at LEAST 50% of their cars run on electricity and they will NOT need to be charged since they will use solar panel skins, energy creating brakes, and all the cool energy producing devices known to man to help power them forever. I’ll make sure that the cars will run for 50 years so that there will be no maintenance other than regular services but you might have to take out a 50 year loan to pay for them since we want to keep the car companies in business.
NEXT, I will pass a bill, with the help of my computer buddies in the House and Senate that will offer solar panels to EVERY American Household and the Power companies will be in charge of regulating how much energy comes INTO the grid and disperse it accordingly to keep a BALANCE of energy throughout the country. Eventually, within 10 years, I will phase out gasoline burning cars and houses will no longer run on oil and Exxon will have to come up with some other skam to make outrageous profits. Actually they can sell the oil to the tire manufacturers until we ban tires and use fans to propel our cars.
NEXT, we will erect a BIG WALL OF the USA that will be BIGGER than China’s. And I will make FDR’s road projects look like nothing in comparison. Everyone who is out of work will be able to work on the GREAT WALL of FREEDOM and when it’s done we’ll put our military on top of it to patrol the borders and keep EVERYONE out unless they pay at least $20,000 for a Green Card.
NEXT, to take care of the National Debt I’ll make marijuana LEGAL but only when purchased from the Post Office vending machines or those in the IRS buildings. The profits will go toward the National Debt. ALSO, prostitution will be regulated and kept totally clean and safe and LEGAL and ALL profits will go toward the National Debt and you will be able to call the Post Office, Pimping Division, to make appointments. Your wife will never need to suspect you UNLESS she sees a postal truck in front of your house at night.
NEXT, gambling will be LEGAL in all 50 States and will either be run by the Indians or the Mafia but all proceeds will go to the government and the profits will once again go toward the National Debt.
Next, the taxes from the corporations will NO LONGER be used for War since we will make peace with the world and we will not ALLOW bad people to come into the country. The wall will keep the world’s miscreants out and OUR miscreants in so there won’t be any trouble for anyone in or out of our country.
With NO govt corruption we won’t need the MIF or IMF or IFM and we’ll make the govt in charge of interstate roads, and perhaps ALL roads, and bridges, and National Parks, and parks in general.
Then, I’ll declare all LAWS Illegal and we will have only ONE law and that will be “Harm ye NO ONE!” The first offense will be punishable by paying the person back for harming them financially, or if you harm someone physically they will be able to do the same thing back to you or we will have the option of letting the person CHOOSE to put the offender into the old classic, STOCKS! And they will be ridiculed publicly. EVERYONE who does not break THE Law will get a REWARD at the end of the year for Christmas. The ones who do break the law get NO Christmas bonus for them!
We will let the world know to LEAVE US ALONE! Anyone who attacks us in any way will be ruthlessly attacked, AND PILLAGED, by us, and our troops from the GREAT WALL OF FREEDOM. We will devastate their country and take EVERYTHING of value and their women will be put to work in our Post Offices. I like to think that NO ONE will ever attack us again but if so … THEY WERE WARNED! Unlike Bush though we will enter their country and RAZE it one foot at a time until the whole country is destroyed and then we will pour salt on what is left. The people will be escorted out before we destroy the country and their women will be shipped off to our Post Offices.
Yahoo cut off the rest of it but I think that basically covers everything but if you can think of anything I missed please notify your local Senatebot or Congressbot. Oh yeah, I also want $1 million / year. That way I won’t be tempted to take bribes. But you won’t be paying taxes and our National Debt should be paid off totally in 20 years, especially if I authorize the placement of Viagra in the water supply.
That SHOULD be IT!
Vote for Dartagnon Puissant, U.S. President, and don’t worry about my record. IT’s minor compared to the ones in our govt now and I wouldn’t want to be sentenced to a Postal Penal Colony or hard labor in the Marijuana Fields and THE law will apply to me as it does to everyone else, so help me God.
I AM Dartagnon Puissant and I APPROVE this message!
TOUGH CROWD! But how can you JUDGE me if YOU don’t READ my PROPOSAL. I mean, it sounds really GOOD to me. What more could you guys want? Free massages? Come on, GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!
Funny… Very funny this thing about the House of Computer Repesentatives…and do not see this as far-fetched as anyone might fancy improbable to occur.
You ought to run this whole thing past the Philosophy category. Those scratch cats (of which I am often one) would have a field day with this one. Primarily one is there in the list that would really raise the hackles of the participants; this one: “Then, I’ll declare all LAWS Illegal,” which in case would render this law illegal at once at the outset and thus all that follows too dead to groan.
And on this about the Post Office, this is telling on the one count and could be regarded quite offensive on the other: as to what constitutes a count, however, I have yet to divine for myself, for having worked at the Post Office, I have yet to ascertain what constitutes a Post Office, which in case I believe is your point in the first case.
How much electricity does a solar cell produce?
Considering the best solar panel available to the public at this time at high noon, how many volts, watts, and amps would 1 square foot of solar cells produce.
Thanks ppl,
you’re the best
The link below is to the best panel from Sunpower. It’s available to the public, I suppose, through installers. You can’t order one yourself from the internet or at a store.
You can calculate what you want from there. This panel has an efficiency of 18.5%, which is what happens once you put the cells in a realistic frame under glass. It’s really only useful to talk about watts per square foot. Volts and amps are specified for the entire panel, and it would not be possible to tap the voltage off, say, just 1 square foot of a 15-square-foot panel.
How long would a 18W fluorescent tube be lit if a solar panel produces 150W?
I don’t understand how much electricity is generated by a solar panel. What does it mean if they say it generates 150W? Is it
per hour or per minute or per second.
If a fluorescent light has a power rating of 18W, does it mean it uses 18W per second, minute or hour? Help!
Watt is a measure of power. 1 Watt is one Joule (a unit of energy) per second.
150 Watt means that you get 150 Joule every second. And 18 Watt implies the fluorescent tube consumes 18 Joule every second.
Therefore a 150 W solar panel would be able to light up 8 (and 1/3, if this means anything…) 18 W fluorescent tubes, as long as it provides that power, that means as long as it is properly lit by the sun.
If you don’t use all the power, you lose it, unless said power is sent to a battery.
Will it really take over 30 years for a solar panel to pay itself off?
I’m looking into solar panels for my house. But when I run the figures, it would take forever to pay itself off.
Example: 224 watt solar panel X 4.73 hours/day (peak sunlight hours where I’m located) X 30 days/month X 12 months/year = 381,427.2 watt hours/year or 381.4 kWh/year. At $.0778/kWh (in my area), it would only save me $29.67/year. Since this particular solar panels cost $912, it would take over 30 years to pay itself off.
I know I must compensate for inflation and rising electricity costs.
Also, other components needed for installation (inverter, mounts, combiner box) must be considered.
Does the solar panel continue to produce electricity outside of the peak sunlight hours?
Can someone who knows more than me please help me make sense of all this? How many years will it really take to pay itself off? How much electricity will the solar panel actually produce in a year?
No. It will never pay off.
Yes, panel will produce outside peak hours. However, your output is too high. While you will get some off peak power, you aren’t considering that you won’t get peak power because of panel orientation, inclement days, dirt on the panels, etc. Plus, losses from the needed batteries, inverter, etc. You’ve done a good set of calcs tho, you are in the neighborhood. I expect you are lucky to get $20/year. The maintainance and replacment costs of the batteries alone will be more than that.
Solar is too expensive, that’s why it is used so rarely. Better to spend your money on conservation. Use natural light. Improve insulation. More efficient heater/air conditioner when the old one dies. Deciduous trees near the house to shade in summer, let light through in winter. Drop thermostat in winter, raise in summer.
Good luck!
Selling electricity back to the grid?
If I have a solar panel system that produces an excess of electricity that I don’t use, how much does the electric company pay for the energy run back to them? I’ve heard half a cent per kWh, but I don’t have a source to back that up.
An approximate price will be fine, Thanks.
The state you live in makes the rules for this. Many states have net metering which means that they pay you back at the same rate as they charge you for any excess at the end of the month. I live in Wisconsin and get a check pretty much every month for the excess generation from my wind turbine. I get charged 11.7 cents per kw/hr if I do not make enough to cover my needs and they pay me 11.7 cents per kw/hr for any excess. If you go to http://www.dsireusa.org/ you can probably find out, they have most of the info, including grand and loan programs for renewable energy, just click on your state. Or go to your electric suppliers web site or call them. Most of the utilities are happy to pay net metering for solar because it is at peak production when there is peak demand.
how many solar panels do I need for my house if in average i consume 880 kwh?
how much energy or electricity a solar panel produces?
First, before we discuss how much solar power you need. I want you to understand that the solar industry is pushing low grade solar panels on people today. Did you know that they will sell you solar panels that can degrade to 25% of their original output in less than 5 years? Not a very sound investment, right?
You need to research these products and become an educated buyer rather than just throwing your money at the problem. Here is an article about the power output of various solar panels. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/5566608/what_do_polycrystalline_solar_panels.html?cat=57
Second, as a general rule of thumb, you can generate at most 100 watts of power (.1Kwh) per 2 square feet of roof space. I have had to revise my own estimates after building a solar array in my yard using high grade solar panels. Solar panels do not put out their peak rating all the time.
NOTE: I am not paid nor given any compensation by solar interests.
If i buy solar panels will i be able to get money from the pseg company?
Im planning to buy some solar panels to put on top of my house if i get people to install it and how do i find out of pseg will give me more money to produce electricity ? How much watt do i need i live in nj Edison is this possible to do i heard you can make money and not have an electricity bill
posssible , but that is mostly a myth. so dont count on it.
Maths problems please help?
the average household uses 7400kWh
a) Installation of solar panel systems represents one way households can reduce the demand for
electricity on state electricity resources.
Asuming the 7400kWh is per year:
a) 1 solar panel produces 3.9*365 kWh a year = 1423.5kWh
To work out number of panels needed 7400/1423.5 = 5.198 round up to 6 (normally you would round down but 5 panels would not produce the engergy needed).
b) $6000*6 = $36000
c) Work out total cost of electricity per year from grid: $0.18*7400 = $1332
Number of years = 36000/1332 = 27.02
